We have put in place specific benefits which support women in particular.  This is because the construction-related sector is one where women are under-represented.

We want all women to have the best possible chance of success and happiness, both in and outside of work.  That’s why we offer a range of benefits for women, no matter what their needs, or what stage they are in their life, or their career.

These include; heavily subsidised childcare, enhanced maternity pay, flexible working, perimenopause and menopause support, as well as, outstanding training and career development opportunities. All these benefits are also available to our male employees.

We also offer female-specific coaching and mentoring programmes designed to give women the confidence to progress into more senior positions.  Some of our female colleagues explain how these benefits are making a significant difference to their lives.

Let’s hear what our female colleagues have to say:

Beth Sweeting, People Business Partner

Beth Sweeting takes full advantage of the heavily subsidised childcare package offered by Wavin, as well as flexible working.

‘’ The childcare benefit has been a game changer for me and my family.  Wavin pays half my nursery costs which means I can continue my career, without financial concerns, whilst knowing my two boys are also very well looked after.  Since having children, I’ve returned to work 4 days a week, benefitting from both the childcare support and flexible working offered by Wavin, and I’ve been promoted. You really can have a family and a career at Wavin"

Emma Wilkinson, Operations Administrator

Emma Wilkinson gives her view on Wavin’s support to new mums,

‘’ Wavin’s enhanced maternity pay, which offers six months at full pay after one year’s service, is fantastic.  It allows mums to spend precious time with their new babies without worrying about how they’ll pay the bills or if they’ll have to reluctantly cut short their maternity leave and return to work to make ends meet."

Priye Massey, Marketing Coordinator

Priye Massey shares her experience on career progression opportunities at Wavin,

‘’ In just the last two years at Wavin I secured a new and exciting position in a different department, I took part in a global leadership development programme and have taken on more responsibility leading to a promotion.  I have a career development plan and am supported and encouraged to progress. At Wavin you can succeed if you have the ambition to do so "

Linda Fletcher, Customer Service Advisor

Linda Fletcher recently submitted a flexible working request which was approved without hesitation.

‘’Flexible working is very much supported at Wavin, and taken up by many female employees.  It’s a godsend when you need it.  In my case, I need the flexibility to look after my elderly parents and it’s an enormous relief that I have the support from Wavin to do this without it being detrimental to me in any way.  As well as flexible working, hybrid working is also supported which is a real positive for many employees."

Heather Graham and Rebecca Scott

Heather Graham and Rebecca Scott (left to right) are just two, of a cohort of young people, that join Wavin UK each year as interns and graduate trainees.

The training opportunities are second to none and the majority, including both Heather and Rebecca, are offered full time positions either during or at the end of their schemes.

Wavin UK is particularly keen to attract young women into the Company from STEM subjects, but young people from all backgrounds, disciplines and minority groups are encouraged to apply.

Wavin UK menopause support group

Kerry Robson, Ana Barrieros and Susan Gomersall (left to right) are all part of a Wavin UK menopause support group which meets regularly.

Open discussion, sharing experiences, mutual support, and education, have helped to reduce the stigma around this topic and have made it much easier for women to talk openly at work about their challenges and obtain the support they need.

The group’s work will shape a new Company policy and training programme for Line Managers so that they can support women in their team who are facing challenges as a result of the menopause.
